Event Type

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as home and family preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, disaster psychology, terrorism response and team organization. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

The CERT training runs on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning March 27th and runs through April 19th.  Students should plan on attending all 8 sessions in order to receive their certification.  The course fee is $35.00 which includes instruction, a student manual, and a CERT backpack containing basic personal protective equipment.  For additional information contact Doug at Washington County Emergency Management by phone at (435) 301-7360 or email at doug.burns@washco.utah.gov.
