We are looking forward to having you join our Shelter Fundamentals Training to better serve our communities in times of disasters.
This training will introduce the roles and responsibilities for opening up, operating and closing a shelter/evacuation center during a disaster. It will also outline how we are keeping our communities and volunteers safe in the COVID-19 environment and will address those protocols and procedures.
Upon completion of this training you will be able to
- Explain the Red Cross Philosophy and principles of sheltering.
- Identify client needs
- Describe different types of shelters.
- Identify how a shelter is structured and operates.
- Explain the activities and tasks that take place in shelters.
- Explain the types of work shelter service worker will perform and how to do it.
We will be using an online platform Microsoft Teams for the training, to help maintain social distancing. The link is provided below. We will have a virtual instructor lead the course, there will be videos and scenarios that we will go over as well. If you don’t have microphone capability with your computer there will be a chat function that you will be able to type your questions into.
